Common questions
What does it cost?
Your first month is free, with everything unlocked and no card required to start. After that it is $3.99 per month or $39.99 per year. There is no advertising at any price, and your data is never sold — the subscription is what pays for the work.
How do I install it?
Download it from the home page and open the file. Because it comes directly from us rather than from a store, Android will ask once whether you trust the source; tap Settings on that prompt, allow your browser to install apps, then go back and tap Install. You can turn that permission off again afterwards.
Every release is signed by Chaos Innovations LLC and Android verifies that signature before installing. The SHA-256 of the current build is published on the home page and in a checksum file if you want to confirm the download arrived intact.
How does the subscription work if the app has no internet?
That is exactly why it works the way it does. When your free month ends, the app shows a short install code. You subscribe on this website using that code, and you get back a licence key to paste in once. The key is signed by us, and the app checks that signature on your phone — no connection needed, then or ever.
If you would rather not deal with a key at all, the Google Play version handles billing the ordinary way. It does need network access to do that, which is the one difference between the two builds.
What happens to my entries if I stop paying?
Nothing. They stay on your phone and you keep access to them — the app always offers See and export my entries, whether or not you have a subscription. Charging for the tools is fair; locking you out of your own journal would not be.
I changed phones and my licence stopped working.
A licence is tied to one installation, so a new phone needs a new key. Email support@chaosinnovations.com with your new install code and the address you subscribed with, and we will reissue it at no charge.
Why isn't it on the Play Store yet?
It is on the way. The direct download exists so people who want it now can have it now, without waiting on a review queue.
Which phones does it run on?
Android 8.0 (Oreo) and later. An iPhone version is planned but not yet in development.
Do I need to create an account?
Not with us. There is no Chaos Innovations sign-up and no server holding a profile for you — you open the app and it works. Paying for a subscription naturally involves whoever processes the payment, but that is a billing relationship, not an account inside the app, and none of what you write in the app is attached to it.
Does it work without signal?
Entirely. The app never uses the network — it is built without the internet permission — so airplane mode, a dead zone or a comm center with no personal devices allowed makes no difference to it.
Can my employer see what I write in it?
Not through us. Your entries never leave your phone and we never receive them, so there is nothing for anyone to request from Chaos Innovations. Be aware of the ordinary caveats that apply to anything on a phone: if the device belongs to your employer, or is managed by them, or someone can unlock it, then the usual rules about that device still apply. If that is a concern, install it on a personal phone with a screen lock.
Will it tell me I missed a day?
No. It keeps no streak, no score and no adherence figure, and it has no concept of a missed day — there is no field for one in it. You can use it twice in a month and it will not comment.
I got a new phone. How do I move my data?
Because the encryption key lives in your old phone's hardware and cannot be exported, the app itself cannot carry your history across. Android's own device-transfer or backup feature may move it for you if you have that enabled. Otherwise, use the print or export options to keep what matters to you before you switch.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Delete my data. It clears your entries, your settings and any reminders already scheduled with Android. Uninstalling also removes everything. Both are irreversible, and we have no copy to restore.
A reminder didn't arrive.
Three things account for nearly all of these:
- Notifications were declined. Check Android Settings → Apps → Dispatcher Strong → Notifications.
- Exact alarms are blocked. Under "Alarms & reminders" for the app, make sure it is allowed. Without it Android delivers reminders late.
- The app was force-stopped. If you force-stop an app, Android stops delivering system events to it — including the restart signal — until you open it again. Open Dispatcher Strong once and your reminders will re-arm themselves. Battery optimization set to "restricted" can have the same effect.
I use a screen reader.
The app is built for that. Every control has a spoken name, selected and unavailable states are announced in words rather than shown only as a color, touch targets meet the 44-pixel minimum, and reading order follows the visual order. If you hit something that does not read correctly, please tell us — that is a bug and we will fix it.
Reporting a bug
Email support@chaosinnovations.com with your phone model, your Android version, the app version from Settings, and what you did just before it went wrong. Please do not send us screenshots of your journal or any personal entries — we do not need them, and we would rather not receive them.
